We moved to Oklahoma in 1987 to get back to the rural way of life. Acquired land, few cows and began the Busy Bee Ranch. After 20 years raising a mix breed herd, we looked into the Dexter breed. We now have a small herd of 30 + head and have found they work very well for us; we milk them and are very good for putting in the freezer. We find that we can run about twice as many Dexter on the same amount of land. We still have a regular size cow herd therefore easy to compare. We also run a Dexter bull with the first time heifers of the regular size herd, which has worked very well for us.
